Until sometime back we never even bothered to know what this term was all about but now with the increasing facts which were predicted years ago, the time has come when every human being on this earth should feel the responsilbility of cleaning up this earth, something without which we cannot pass on the same pleasant and happy living to our younger generations.
So what am I talking about??? U guessed it ryt!! Its global warming!! A threatening reality !!!!
Global warming is perhaps the most important environmental problem in the world today. Levels of greenhouse gases are increasing in the atmosphere due to human activities, and are changing the composition of the atmosphere and global warming. Climate scientists agree that human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels contribute to the problem.
Let me define it in a simple way!! Everyday the beams of sun come down to the earth to say hello to earth and they stay at a safer distance to earth due to which we experience moderate climatic conditions on earth. But now due to the careless attitude of human beings some of the hazardous gases are released which compel the sun beams to stay attached to the earth due to which we are experiencing horrendous climatic changes.
This increase in earths average temperature is due to many reasons:
1. The Green house gases are the main culprits of the global warming. The green house gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide are playing hazards in the present times. These green house gases trap heat in earth’s atmosphere and thus result in increasing the temperature of earth. The excessive emission of these gases is the major cause of global warming.
2. Buildings, both commercial and residential represent a larger source of global warming pollution than cars and trucks.
3. Another major cause of global warming is deforestation. Deforestation is to be blamed for 25% of all carbon dioxide release entering the atmosphere, by the cutting and burning of about 34 million acres of trees each year
So what is the solution for global warming??
Although we cannot act on a macro level to control this catastrophy, there are some personal actions which every human being can do as a part of his responsibility.
1. Every time you buy a vehicle look for the one with the best fuel economy in its class. Each drop of petrol/gas you use is responsible for the heat trapping gases in the atmosphere.
2. When it comes time to replace appliances, look for the Energy Star label on new appliances (refrigerators, freezers, furnaces, air conditioners, and water heaters use the most energy). These items may cost a bit more initially, but the energy savings will pay back the extra investment within a couple of years.
3. If every household in the world replaced one regular light bulb with an energy-saving model, we could reduce global warming pollution by more than 90 billion crores over the life of the bulbs; the same as taking 6.3 million cars off the road. So, replace your incandescent bulbs with more efficient compact fluorescents, which now come in all shapes and sizes. You'll be doing your share to cut back on heat-trapping pollution and you'll save money on your electric bills and light bulbs.
4. Plant a tree. You can also make a difference in your own backyard. Get a group in your neighborhood together and contact your urban forester about planting trees on private property and public land. In addition to storing carbon, trees planted in and around urban areas and residences can provide much-needed shade in the summer, reducing energy bills and fossil fuel use.
If only one person changes after reading this blog I belived I have done my bit to save this planet.
