of innocence!!

An innocent Afghani kid to a US Soldier:

Why you soldiers are killing everyone here ? You don't have fear ? From where you get the courage to kill others?

Soldier to kid: Innocent baby! Courage is not the absence of fear but rather the judgement that something is more important than fear. The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him. I have my wife and a kid like you at home ,waiting for me! I will go back only if this war ends.

Kid to soldier: I don't know much about your reason to fight. But,Two years back,my father(A Soldier-the only person I had to live my life with) said the same thing(once the war ends I will be back) since then I am waiting and  just wanted to ask the same question to my father?

3 Truths about life!!

Heart breaking truths about life
  • First time when we realize that we are not the centre of the universe
  • Second time when we realize no matter how hard we try, there are dreams we'll never be able to achieve and
  • The third time when we decide to go after our dream knowing we might never get it.

Great habits to start with

In no particular order:
  • Floss before going to bed. To ensure that you don't have junk stewing in your teeth for 8 hours.
  • Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
  • Perform kegels every day.
  • "Eat the frog". Write down 1 task that you must absolutely perform in order for the day to be a success, and do it first when you get to work.
  • Send 1 call/text/email to an old friend or colleague that you haven't spoken with in a while. Over one year, that adds up to 365 reignited relationships (or 61 relationships reignited six times apiece).
  • End the day with less emails in your inbox than you started with. Repeat until you get to inbox zero.
  • Give away / donate one item in your household every single day. Repeat until you have an uncluttered, restful home.
  • Walk to and from work, if possible. Exercise! Sunshine!
  • Eat at least one fruit or vegetable each day. Sure, you should probably eat a half-dozen servings of each. But things can get really screwed up when you are eating zero fruits and veggies. Start small and be consistent.
  • Express gratitude. My days go so much smoother when I remind myself: "dude, you could just as easily have been born in a Sudanese refugee camp.
  • Spend at least 20 minutes reading something that is completely unrelated to your career (or "personal development"). Creative thinking requires varied inputs. If you have monofocus (e.g. only read about startups all day), you're severely limiting the amount of interesting ideas you can come up with.
  • Get uncomfortable at least 1x per day (ideally 3x or 5x). By "get uncomfortable" I mean "summon the courage to do something that makes you anxious". Speak up during the work conference call. Say hi to the pretty girl or fella standing next to you in line. Run 4 miles instead of 3. Et cetera.

Friday evening euphoria

Aww!!! Friday evening...and I just looovvvvve fridays...if you know what i mean ;-).I love it more so because I get so much more free time( definitely not to write something on my orphan blog).Meanwhile I was just wondering about old and new things which go on in life.I am basically a person who is much more relaxed with things settled and relaxed for me, so settled and comfortable that at times it gets pretty boring and monotonous and I start endearing for something new in life ...well pretty much coz new is refreshing and makes you realise that there is much more to life than just sitting in your old comfort zone.Sometimes old can turn really haunting  I guess.Just like the other blog drafts which are sitting in an imperfect and bitty form. Now they have become so old that I dread to touch them and get back to the old memories.Letting things be!!
One more thing I have been really glad about is my discipline of 1 week towards fitness.Yes...to attend my cousins wedding and to wear all my new dresses and show off I need to loose weight. So probably that is THE main reason towards my sudden love for fitness. So it has been going good for the past 1 week and I hope to continue the same workout routine for the next one month or till my enthusiasm and stamina dies.Wish me luck!!

Never saw that coming ;-)

A man walked out to the street and caught a taxi just going by. He got into the taxi and the cabbie said, "Perfect timing. You're just like Brian"
Passenger: "Who?"

Cabbie: "Brian Sullivan. He's a guy who did everything right all the time. Like my coming along when you needed a cab, things happen like that to Brian every single time."

Passenger: "There are always a few clouds over everybody."

Cabbie: "Not Brian Sullivan. He was a terrific athlete. He could have won the Grand Slam at tennis. He could golf with the pros. He sang like an opera baritone and danced like a Broadway star and you should have heard him play the piano. He was an amazing guy."

Passenger: "Sounds like he was something really special."

Cabbie: "There's more. He had a memory like a computer. He remembered everybody's birthday. He knew all about wine, which foods to order and which fork to eat them with. He could fix anything. Not like me. I change a fuse and the whole street blacks out. But Brian Sullivan, he could do everything right."

Passenger: "Wow. Some guy then."

Cabbie: "He always knew the quickest way to go in traffic and avoid traffic jams. Not like me, I always seem to get stuck in them. But Brian, he never made a mistake and he really knew how to treat a woman and make her feel good. He would never answer her back even if she was in the wrong; and his clothing was always immaculate, shoes polished too. He was the perfect man! He never made a mistake. No one could ever measure up to Brian Sullivan."

Passenger: "An amazing fellow. How did you meet him?"

Cabbie: "Well, I never
actually met Brian. He died. I'm married to his bloody widow."

A story of a real Jawan

An Indian Army soldier and a software engineer met in Shatabadi Express and here is an interesting conversation that transpired between them:
Vivek Pradhan was not a happy man. Even the plush comfort of the air-conditioned compartment of the Shatabdhi express could not cool his frayed nerves. He was the Project Manager and still not entitled to air travel. It was not the prestige he sought; he had tried to reason with the admin person, it was the savings in time. As PM, he had so many things to do!!
He opened his case and took out the laptop, determined to put the time to some good use.
“Are you from the software industry sir,” the man beside him was staring appreciatively at the laptop. Vivek glanced briefly and mumbled in affirmation, handling the laptop now with exaggerated care and importance as if it were an expensive car.
“You people have brought so much advancement to the country, Sir. Today everything is getting computerized. ”
“Thanks,” smiled Vivek, turning around to give the man a look. He always found it difficult to resist appreciation. The man was young and stockily built like a sportsman. He looked simple and strangely out of place in that little lap of luxury like a small town boy in a prep school. He probably was a railway sportsman making the most of his free traveling pass.
“You people always amaze me,” the man continued, “You sit in an office and write something on a computer and it does so many big things outside.”
Vivek smiled deprecatingly. Naive ness demanded reasoning not anger. “It is not as simple as that my friend. It is not just a question of writing a few lines. There is a lot of process that goes behind it.”
For a moment, he was tempted to explain the entire Software Development Lifecycle but restrained himself to a single statement. “It is complex, very complex.”

“It has to be. No wonder you people are so highly paid,” came the reply.
This was not turning out as Vivek had thought. A hint of belligerence crept into his so far affable, persuasive tone. ”
Everyone just sees the money. No one sees the amount of hard work we have to put in. Indians have such a narrow concept of hard work. Just because we sit in an air-conditioned office, does not mean our brows do not sweat. You exercise the muscle; we exercise the mind and believe me that is no less taxing.”
He could see, he had the man where he wanted, and it was time to drive home the point.
“Let me give you an example. Take this train. The entire railway reservation system is computerized. You can book a train ticket between any two stations from any of the hundreds of computerized booking centers across the country.
Thousands of transactions accessing a single database, at a time concurrently; data integrity, locking, data security. Do you understand the complexity in designing and coding such a system?”
The man was awestruck; quite like a child at a planetarium. This was something big and beyond his imagination.
“You design and code such things.”
“I used to,” Vivek paused for effect, “but now I am the Project Manager.”
“Oh!” sighed the man, as if the storm had passed over,
“So your life is easy now.”
This was like the last straw for Vivek. He retorted, “Oh come on, does life ever get easy as you go up the ladder. Responsibility only brings more work.
Design and coding! That is the easier part. Now I do not do it, but I am responsible for it and believe me, that is far more stressful. My job is to get the work done in time and with the highest quality.
To tell you about the pressures, there is the customer at one end, always changing his requirements, the user at the other, wanting something else, and your boss, always expecting you to have finished it yesterday.”
Vivek paused in his diatribe, his belligerence fading with self-realization. What he had said, was not merely the outburst of a wronged man, it was the truth. And one need not get angry while defending the truth.
“My friend,” he concluded triumphantly, “you don’t know what it is to be in the Line of Fire”
The man sat back in his chair, his eyes closed as if in realization. When he spoke after sometime, it was with a calm certainty that surprised Vivek.
“I know sir…. I know what it is to be in the Line of Fire…….”
He was staring blankly, as if no passenger, no train existed, just a vast expanse of time.
“There were 30 of us when we were ordered to capture Point 4875 in the cover of the night.
The enemy was firing from the top.
There was no knowing where the next bullet was going to come from and for whom.
In the morning when we finally hoisted the tricolour at the top only 4 of us were alive.”
“You are a…?”
“I am Subedar Sushant from the 13 J&K Rifles on duty at Peak 4875 in Kargil. They tell me I have completed my term and can opt for a soft assignment.
But, tell me sir, can one give up duty just because it makes life easier.
On the dawn of that capture, one of my colleagues lay injured in the snow, open to enemy fire while we were hiding behind a bunker.
It was my job to go and fetch that soldier to safety. But my captain sahib refused me permission and went ahead himself.
He said that the first pledge he had taken as a Gentleman Cadet was to put the safety and welfare of the nation foremost followed by the safety and welfare of the men he commanded… ….his own personal safety came last, always and every time.”

“He was killed as he shielded and brought that injured soldier into the bunker. Every morning thereafter, as we stood guard, I could see him taking all those bullets, which were actually meant for me. I know sir….I know, what it is to be in the Line of Fire.”
Vivek looked at him in disbelief not sure of how to respond. Abruptly, he switched off the laptop.
It seemed trivial, even insulting to edit a Word document in the presence of a man for whom valor and duty was a daily part of life; valour and sense of duty which he had so far attributed only to epical heroes.
The train slowed down as it pulled into the station, and Subedar Sushant picked up his bags to alight.
“It was nice meeting you sir.”
Vivek fumbled with the handshake.
This hand… had climbed mountains, pressed the trigger, and hoisted the tricolour. Suddenly, as if by impulse, he stood up at attention and his right hand went up in an impromptu salute.
It was the least he felt he could do for the country.
PS:- The incident he narrated during the capture of Peak 4875 is a true-life incident during the Kargil war. Capt. Batra sacrificed his life while trying to save one of the men he commanded, as victory was within sight. For this and various other acts of bravery, he was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the nation’s highest military award.

Friday evening..blues

Its friday evening and I feel soo exhausted and tired...not that I have done anything significant in the past one week but the thought of having worked for 5 long days actually makes me more tiring. But the best part is the weekend which I am looking forward to.Today while bathing kiddo I asked him how the celebrations for Aug 15 are going on.He said PT sir will ask all of them to do as he does and will draw a line on which all the kids have to walk.I asked kiddo if he is learning how to walk on that line drawn by PT sir. With a long look at me he said'I already know how to walk mumma' for which I could not stop laughing.Okay,Yeah!!How true.
Today I am getting super bored at office.Just wish it is 6:30 instead of 4:30..two more looong hours to go.sleepy, drowsy, bored, don’t feel like doing anything.Y.A.W.N.
I instead decided to watch a new AIB video..just hoping that no creepy colleague comes and peeps into my system.Hello AIB ;-))

I am back..one more time

I have been wanting to write on my blog for quite some time now. Been away from this wonderful space  for quite some time...There have been many thoughts revolving around my head...but have not been able to make it through my little space. One more year or a little over a year, to be precise  has gone by and all that stands out to say that I have become more materialistic and less creatively involved in my little/ only mine space. But what with all the time on hand I have now with one more change in job, I have resolved to write atleast one blog post a month. So here I am once again with my ranting and whining...all the way ; - ))..Leaving you with the beauty of vizag shores.

clueless!!! Totally!!

Guess I take on to writing when I really have no idea on how to go about doing all the work which I take on to my head and eventually  realize that I cant actually perform it !!! Phew!!! I am sooo confused right now , totally clueless..My boss has assigned some work ( which I understand that he himself has no clue about) and this is where I end up at.. whining about the kind of over enthusiasm I unnecessarily display at work ...and all that leading to a blog post with my clueless rantings. And to top it up the semester is fast ending and I got to complete the syllabus for which I have to prepare a notes.... I really am so annoyed with my boss, not that he assigned any work but the kind of work he gave and the expectation out of it is totally hopeless.I really love the field I am in , the kind of feeling you get when you understand that you are enlightening a few young minds, that feeling is totally awesome, but setting boundaries around each line and sentence and word you speak and asking the best result out of it is an absolute sin.So what I did all evening was opening power-point, checking what info I have to insert , checking Google on how best that can be done, then back to ppt, then info, then Google some more then realize that I have not been blogging much these days and here I am!!! I don't understand how can I keep on ranting for 1 hour for the kind of strict info (about our college and its various activites as a part of college campaigning) which was provided to me,impossible. So how much time do I need to bounce back of that annoying situation....1,2,3,4 ok I am fine , decided I will talk to him clearly that there isn't much clarity on the work he has assigned and I am off  to  checking some kadhai chicken recipes.ciao ; )

Knock knock...

Its been a long time...lots of things happened since then....job change, got enrolled into Ph.D,busy with training classes even on Sundays, managing on the home front etc. etc..well, honestly I was too lazy to blog.thats the real reason........OK pretty much the summary of the bad and good in my life these days...but how time flies....
so today's holiday for me,thought of doing 100 different things with umpteen plans for today but when I finally realized that all of that is not really possible in this one decent holiday I pretty much settled in for blogging which I had almost forgotten.May be I find writing very comforting or energizing...I don't know...
I am a bit off today…am realizing that I need almost no reason to get ‘upset’ these days, so I don't think these mood swings count anymore. Anyways, felt a bit bored today...so I felt like listening to some peppy number and there it was..."Saadi ke fall sa tumhe match kiya rey, kabhi catch kia rey..."  the first time I listened to this song I was like , oh god how awkward and idiotic the song is but after I heard it again I was like OK ..Prabhudeva's songs can uplift ur mood sometimes with such weird lyrics.....Hey indeed it is a peppy song...after listening to lungi song in every channel and every other school's annual day function I feel this song is soo refreshing,so its first lungi and now sari ka fall.
Y'day the senior students felicitated two faculty members who were getting relieved. It was very heartening to see how students shower their love and respect towards their teachers when the thought of separation sets in.For a moment I felt that the same concern should have been shown while the classes were being taken. But somehow they seem to undermine the importance of listening and actively interacting in the class. For me, evn if the student mumbles anything Its a great achievement in itself, but dear hardly do they speak. They listen( that's what I prefer to presume) as if they are totally engrossed in the lecture and the saddest part is even when a question is raised at the end of the session, the same engrossed look with no reaction or response is found. So what were they engrossed in really??
